Collecting and Sharing Data
AACI distributes annual surveys to assess the needs of academic cancer centers and inform programming decisions. Survey data are aggregated and anonymized to share with respondents. In some cases, survey results are published in scientific journals that are accessible outside the AACI cancer center network. However, AACI surveys are only to be completed by cancer center members and respondents are not permitted to share unpublished results outside their cancer centers.
We also periodically survey members on topics of interest to smaller task forces and working groups. Recent surveys have addressed member satisfaction, financial disclosures, and special projects of Protocol Review and Monitoring and Data and Safety Monitoring Committees.
2024 Surveys
Compensation Survey
The annual Compensation Survey collects demographic and compensation data, including job title and salary, for the top-level leadership positions across AACI cancer centers. A report is provided to all responding centers following the survey.
CTO Benchmarking Survey
The annual Clinical Trials Office (CTO) Benchmarking Survey tracks cancer center CTO workload, structure, and staffing; trial activation timelines; and sources of CTO funding support. Data from the 2023 survey were published in JCO Oncology Practice.
Academic Time Survey
In 2019, AACI conducted a survey assessing how protected time is provided for faculty physicians with clinical responsibilities who participate in clinical research and academic activities. In 2024, the Physician Clinical Leadership Initiative (PCLI) Steering Committee revised and redistributed the survey to gather updated protected time policies at AACI cancer centers. The survey closed in September 2024 and publication is pending.
2025 Survey Plan
Non-Malignant Clinical Trials Utilizing IEC Therapy Survey
The purpose of the survey is to gain insights into how cancer centers are supporting non-malignant clinical trials, with a focus on responsibility and management, staffing, and funding/finances.
